Questions people actually ask
Is my saved library private?
Yes. Papers, folders, tags, and notes are stored only in your browser (chrome.storage.local) and never leave your computer. Only your account email and license status are ever sent to our server — needed to check whether you're licensed.
Do I need an account to use it?
No. Basic tracking is fully anonymous — save, track, and organize papers with no sign-up. An account is only needed to start your free trial or activate a license, and it's just an email address with a one-time code — no password.
Is there a monthly plan?
No — just the 14-day free trial, then one license at $14.99/year. There's no monthly option and no permanent free plan to fall back on indefinitely.
What happens after my 14-day trial ends?
If you don't buy a license, your account steps down to basic tracking — up to 10 active papers and 3 folders, no account required to keep using it. Nothing is deleted, and papers you saved during the trial stay in your library; the cap only applies to new saves going forward. You can buy a license anytime after that.
Does my license auto-renew?
No. A license lasts one year from purchase and does not auto-renew or auto-charge — when it's about to lapse, you'll see a reminder in the extension, and you choose whether to buy the next year.
Can I get a refund?
Licenses are final sale — see our Refund Policy. That's the tradeoff for the 14-day free trial: try every feature first, decide before you pay, rather than pay first and ask for a refund after.
How many computers can I use my license on?
One at a time. Signing in on a new computer moves your license there instantly, no code needed on a computer you've already verified — capped at 10 moves per year.
Is this affiliated with PubMed or NCBI?
No. PubMed Tracker is an independent, third-party extension. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), NCBI, or NIH. "PubMed" is used only to describe what the extension works with.
